Counselling Services Offered

Child & Teen Counselling

Life can be challenging for all ages, especially children and teens. Children and teens are faced dealing with many stressors such as anxiety, depression, bullying, social media addiction, disobedience, body image and eating disorder, low self-confidence, perfectionism, attachment, gender/sexuality, suicidal thoughts and self-harm, substance use/addiction, just to name a few. Counselling can help children and teens explore their world through their thoughts, feelings, situations, and experiences. If your child or teen is struggling with challenges that are of concern, seeking support and treatment can lead overall wellness and best mental health outcomes. When children and teens learn to deal with challenges earlier on, their outcomes later in life when dealing with stressors are much more manageable.

I have many years working with children and teens in navigating a variety of mental health issues.

Play Therapy

I  have extensive training and specialization in working with children, youth, families, and separation and divorce. I am a Certified Synergetic Play Therapist, trauma informed and EMDR trained.

What is Play Therapy?

Play Therapy is a researched based form of treatment that is effective for many different issues. This type of treatment is geared towards individuals from 3-12 years old, but it can be used across the lifespan as we all need to play! It focuses on developmental stages of the child and incorporates storytelling, sandtray, objects, and symbols to express their feelings, thoughts, and emotions. As children do not have the words to express their feelings, thoughts, and emotions, toys are used to represent the child’s language as a way of communicating.

One of the main goals of play therapy is to help children gain more awareness of the world around them, enhance self-esteem and coping tools, express feelings, problem-solve, strengthen resilience and communication.

Individual Therapy

YOU are important. YOU are an investment. Each of us needs time to grow, explore, experience, and receive what life has to offer. Individual therapy is an opportunity to connect to oneself, self-reflect, and seek change. Making time for yourself in a safe and comfortable place allows you to explore feelings, behaviours, patterns, and beliefs to your personal life and lived experiences. Research studies have shown the impact and value individual counselling has on a person as it can have profound impact on your life. When you have a problem or challenge that is unique to you, it can make you feel alone, frustrated, and confused. Every client has unique needs that need to be met in order to reach their potential.

Parent Counselling and Consultation

Raising a human can be overwhelming, confusing, and exhausting! As a parent, high risk behaviour can be a real fear and concern. As a parent it’s important to not underestimate your abilities in the care you provide for your teen or child. Sometimes the best way to help is to seek help as the parent to learn strategies to work with your child or teen.

I strive to help parents work towards finding ways to re-connect with their child and teen so that everyone can feel heard and supported in a meaningful way.

EMDR

I am trained in working with children, adults, and couples, with EMDR.

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is a type of therapy that helps individuals heal from from emotional wounds that have caused disturbance in their life. The body remembers a traumatic event as the trauma is stored emotionally in the body and brain. EMDR can work with phobias, anxiety, depression, sexual abuse, and other mental health concerns. EMDR is an effective form of specialized treatment to help process the stuck traumatic memories. EMDR is a great form of treatment for those that may not have the words to express their story as it does not require verbalization.

Couples Counselling

I am a Gottman Trained Therapist who specializes in working with couples and relationships.

When two people are in a relationship, it can be difficult to understand each other’s needs. Those needs are vital to the success of your relationship or marriage. Having a safe and comfortable space where two people can share their needs, thoughts, and emotions is important. Any relationship takes work. I am Gottman Trained therapist which means that I have specialty training in working with couples and the stressors that a relationship may bring. Together, I can support you in gaining a greater understanding of your relationship strengths and challenges so that we can work from a lens of repair, understanding, and growth.

Family Counselling

With every family, there is a system. Families are like a machine, we have to make sure all parts of the machine are working well together so that it can perform smoothly. Family counselling can be useful when parenting through divorce, co-dependency, reduce conflict in the home, death of a family member, chronic illness, or deciding on the care of elderly.

Consultation with Professionals, Organizations and Firms

We spend a large portion of our time at work. Mental health problems can affect an employee’s ability to get work done, feel fulfilled, and get in the way of social bonding and corporate culture. Workplace counselling may be needed if employees are struggling with performance issues, culture problems (lack of team spirit and leadership), interpersonal problems, poorly understood policies and procedures, responsibility problems, and so forth. It’s crucial for all members to feel supported and to not be judged by how they feel.

When a team of people can work together rather than against each other, work environments become less toxic and more collaborative. Toxic environments shouldn’t be a barrier to any individuals success. I take pride in helping leaders and professionals in maintaining excellence in the work that they do so that they can better serve the community.
